Seljestad Residence – Tucked into the foothills of the Sierras the Seljestad Residence is a modern, sustainable, spec home designed around a double height great room and courtyard style plan. From the living room, large windows offer a commanding view over the valley, and 2nd floor bedrooms are connected to an elevated deck over the garage. A highly insulated envelope of SIP panel walls and roof, and orientation of insulated windows and doors, helps this home to be highly energy efficient. Like the Wong residence, another early residential design by Benveniste Architects, cementitious stucco has been studiously detailed to resemble architectural concrete. Fiber-cement siding and painted metal complete an exterior materials palette meant to accentuate the house’s modern lines, and relate the structure, along with its verticality and stepped massing, to the surrounding foothills and mountains beyond.
