Wong Residence – This single story residence in Cupertino was designed on a long corner lot and developed an axial layout along a series of courtyards opening towards the morning light. A great room with 15ft ceilings, clerestory windows, and generous exposure to the front and rear, brings the family together in living, dining, and kitchen. Garage and bedroom wings extend off the spine and define the courtyard spaces.
Characteristic of a house that turns towards it’s internal spaces, both interior and exterior, the street facing palette is modern and detailed with cementitious stucco and low-profile flashing for an appearance akin to architectural concrete. Linear eves are extended to shield entry and window walls from sun and rain, and to express the nature of the home’s sustainable SIP panel construction. Window walls and fencing elements are clad in cedar siding that will bleach to warm gray over time, while large bi-fold doors allow the interior spaces to open fully to the courtyards.
